The group of disciplines referred to as “Allied Health, Scientific & Technical” (AH, S&T) are a number of discrete professions, each having their own identity, codes of ethics, practice competencies, workforce issues and needs. These professional groups have aligned for convenience, critical mass and sphere of influence.
AH, S&T professionals employed by District Health Boards work in many practice settings across the continuum of care, including acute and ambulatory services, rehabilitation and community services, mental health services. They also work in collaborative/partnership relationships with NGOs and PHOs. These professions comprise both regulated and self-regulated occupational groups. The regulated professions are governed by the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (2003) and the Social Workers Registration Act (2003).
